The belief in the "Triune God”

In the "Basic Text" of Synodal Forum I. (Power and Separation of Powers), lines 142-143 state:

"Fundamental Christian beliefs, namely belief in the triune God are evaporating."

I am convinced that this annoying fact is primarily the responsibility of the Church leadership, which has not done its homework in this regard for decades. What do I mean:

In my family-therapeutic work, the statement of faith of the "triune God" is very important, and I have the impression that for people who seek my pastoral or family-therapeutic help, this faith statement is seen as very helpful. Why?

According to Church teaching, the doctrine of the "triune God" not only states that God himself is a social being, but also that the persons of the Trinity are more different than man can imagine, but that they form a unity despite their differences. As God's images, this now applies to us humans as well. Even if, for example, two people are connected in love, it is important to perceive and respect the almost abysmal difference and to believe in the unity that is nevertheless possible. That is why love needs two sentences:

"I love you" and "I respect you in your otherness."

If the second sentence is missing, love becomes symbiotic and thus very endangered. Healthy human relationships always need both: the knowledge and belief, on the one hand, in unity and connectedness that are greater and more fundamental than we can perceive and understand, and, on the other hand, the knowledge of a difference that must be respected and that is the expression of our originality and uniqueness as "children of God." This unity and diversity, which are already grounded in our Christian image of God and in the Christian image of man derived from it, have a fundamental meaning not only for a Christian understanding of marriage and for all love relationships, but also for every human community, and especially for the understanding of "Synodality".

The fact that the truth of faith about the "triune God" in this sense presented here does not appear either in the recently published paper of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK) about marriage preparation and marriage accompaniment nor in the church statements about the Christian understanding of marriage also shows in my eyes the shameful deficits of the church as far as the dialogue of faith and psychology is concerned. Because this dialogue has been deficient for decades, there is no contemporary faith teaching in the church on the connection between Christian spirituality and the Christian view of man on the one hand and psychological growth and healing processes and their blockages on the other.

Therefore, the church leadership bears responsibility for the evaporation of faith in the triune God because it does not do its homework.

Therefore, one of the "appropriate measures to overcome the ... credibility crisis of the church" (lines 145-147) is above all that the church leadership, both the DBK and above all those responsible in the Vatican, finally do their homework.
