Chastisement of children?

An example of how biblical texts demand completely outdated moral concepts

COMPILATION OF THE BIBLICAL QUOTATIONS:

In the book of Proverbs

3,12

For whom the LORD loves he reproves,
and he chastises the son he favors.

13,24

He who spares his rod hates his son,
but he who loves him takes care to chastise him.

23,13-14

Withhold not chastisement from a boy;
if you beat him with the rod, he will not die.

Beat him with the rod, and you will save him from the nether world.

Sirach

30,1-2

He who loves his son chastises him often,
that he may be his joy when he grows up.

He who disciplines his son will benefit from him,
and boast of him among his intimates.

30,12-13

Bend him to the yoke when he is young,
thrash his sides while he is still small, lest he become stubborn,
disobey you, and leave you disconsolate.

Discipline your son, make heavy his yoke, lest his folly humiliate you.

Hebrews 12,5-11

5 You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: "My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him;

6 for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges."

7 Endure your trials as "discipline"; God treats you as sons. For what "son" is there whom his father does not discipline?

8 If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards.

9 Besides this, we have had our earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not (then) submit all the more to the Father of spirits and live?

10 They disciplined us for a short time as seemed right to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we may share his holiness.

11 At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it.

The underlying logic and the consequences of these texts:

The cruelties of nature and natural-historical events are seen as the actions of an " almighty " God who "chastises" people in this way.

The decisive factor is therefore the idea of God:

The understanding of how one envisions God's work in the world.

The violent exercise of authority by fathers in the patriarchal family and in patriarchal society is understood in analogy to this idea of God.

The most important task of Church leadership would therefore be to clarify the Bible's idea of God in dialog with today's pedagogical, psychological and scientific findings and thus offer a contemporary understanding of the Bible.

The Church does not have a contemporary and convincing understanding of God's work in the world >>>

Accordingly, not only some moral concepts but also some prayers are out of date >>>

The regrettable deficits in this respect cannot be reproached often enough to the bishops and the Pope!

NOT ONLY BEAT CHILDREN, BUT SLAUGHTER THEM (Gen 22):

I find it terrible that in the church the Old Testament story of Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac is still regarded as a story of faith and that Abraham is also declared to be the "father of faith" in relation to this story.
